I'm a Sioux Falls photographer who believes in capturing authentic moments with elegance and beauty. I strive to gift my clients with timeless heirlooms they will be able to look upon for generations to come.
Welcome to my online home where I pour out everything from resources for my brides, showcase my LT couples and motherhood journeys. I hope you enjoy these beautiful highlights into my clients lives!
The detail shots or what my brides call the “pretty shots“ are definitely one of my favorite parts of the day. With my two larger wedding packages I block out the first hour to capture all these little items that some people overlook. Couples work really hard to choose each item that will be incorporated into their day. I like to highlight each one so it won’t be forgotten. The detail shots are usually some of my couples favorite images because they capture all the significant items. With these items it starts to tell the whole story of their wedding!
My goal is to make sure nothing is overlooked or forgotten. I send each of my couples a list of all the detail items that I request to be set aside ahead of time. First I want to note that you don’t need to have all these items incorporated into your wedding day. If there are items on the list you plan to have on the wedding day make sure to add them to what I call the “Wedding Day Detail Box.”
Below is a list of 10 important items you don’t want to forget!
With all of my couples I ask that they send me a wedding invitation when they send out all their wedding invites to their guests. I request them to send everything in an envelope with it addressed and stamped. This allows me to see what colors they have chosen and allows me to get an idea of the feel of the wedding. It also will serve as a backup for the wedding day, if the bride forgets to add it to her wedding day detail box. Add any extra paper products including: name tags, ceremony cards, and the menu!
You will want to have your engagement ring, bride’s wedding band and groom’s wedding band. These make such classic and beautiful images. Consider waiting to sotter the bands together until after the wedding. It adds more dimension to the images.
Also, don’t forget to clean all of the rings a day or two prior to wedding day!!
Once you have all your jewelry picked out make sure to add these to the box. They always add that little extra bling to the picture! If you have chosen to wear a hairpiece add this as well.
Make sure to set your shoes aside so I can take pictures of them before they get worn! If you have your bridesmaids getting a specific shoe for the big day you can set those aside as well!
Pick out a ring box, dish or tray to store your rings. A ring box adds so much elegance and a pop of color to your images. Plus, a beautiful way for the best man to carry them around for the day!
Communicate with your florist to ensure your bouquets, boutonnieres, and extra greenery arrives to the “getting ready” location prior to my arrival. I use these in almost all of the photographs. They add natural beauty and color to each image. These items won’t be added to the box but make sure they are all in the same location that everyone will be getting ready!
I encourage my brides to spend extra money on a fancy bottle of perfume! Not only does it make for beautiful pictures, but the smell will always remind you of the day you married the love of your life. Long after the wedding day it can be worn for special occasions or anniversaries.
Grooms might not have as many “details” to capture as the bride, but that doesn’t mean they should be skipped! Some items I request include: watch, cuff links, bowtie/tie, belt, socks, cologne, or any extra special items that will be incorporated into the day!
Vow books are a hot trend. These are perfect for the couple who are really want to add that special touch not only visually, but also with words.
If you have chosen to add something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, its something we don’t want to miss! This can also be used as a way to honor passed loved ones.
For each wedding I bring with me a styling tote including: several styling boards, ring boxes, ribbons, trays and dishes!
If you have any questions about any of these items just reach out and I’d be more then happy to help answer your questions!
