A photographer who believes in authentic beautiful love and that it should be captured with elegant artistry to showcase that beauty.
Welcome to my journal where I pour out everything from resources for my brides to be to sharing all of my sweet couples' love stories and special days!
The holiday season is over and there are many newly engaged couples planning their wedding day. As they start the process there are so many things to think about! Right away they will need to make two big decisions. The first is where do I want to get married. The second is when do I want to get married. Very shortly after that there are several more important decisions that need to be made rather quickly! After you both have chose a date and venue here are four other vendors that need to be booked rather quickly!
Why are these four vendors so important to book early in the process? Typically, they only book one wedding per date. Other vendors such as hair and makeup, florists, cake, catering, stationary and transportation have a team which allows them to book multiple weddings/events per day.
Wedding photographers play such a hands on role in the day. If there is no wedding planner, the photographer naturally takes on the role of coordinator for the day. They assist in the making the timeline for the day and communicating with other vendors the day of the wedding.
Here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota wedding dates book up extremely fast between May and late October. Peak dates are booked typically 15-18 months. If you are getting married on a Saturday during these peak months I would contact several photographers as soon as possible! As I said these dates tend to go fast and we can only be in one place at a time.
If photography is very important to you and you truly love a certain photographers style I would consider reaching out to them prior to picking a wedding date and venue. When looking at a venue you get a list of available dates so that way you will be able to plan around their available schedule.
Like I said there is no set ‘rules’ as to when you should book a photographer but I generally book 12-15 months in advance. When I get inquiries I ask to meet up or chat with every couple prior to booking. That way we know we are a good match as I love working with couples who are just as excited to be working with me! With that being said I would recommend reaching out earlier especially if you have your heart set on working with someone in particular. Make it a priority to get the major vendors book right away and then sit back and enjoy a glass of champagne and celebrate!
